芝加哥大学(University of Chicago)是美国的一所私立、男女同校、无宗教派别的综合性大学，1891年由约翰·洛克菲勒创办，1892年10月1日正式开课。芝加哥大学是美 国最富盛名的私立大学之一，全美大学排名榜：学术声誉排名第4。芝加哥大学有81位校友曾获诺贝尔奖(2007年诺贝尔奖得主最多的大学)，其中包括华裔 物理学家李政道、杨振宁、崔琦。芝加哥大学的前身是由美国浸信会建立的一所教会学校，该校与芝加哥大学同名，但在1886年由于财政问题而倒闭。1890 年，在石油大王约翰.洛克菲勒的慷慨捐助后，芝加哥大学起死回生。这次捐款也被洛克菲勒本人称为“最明智的一次投资”。1891年7月1日，威廉·哈珀成 为该校首任校长。1892年10月1日，芝加哥大学正式开课。最初建立的学院有：商学院(1898年)，法学院(1902年)和东方研究所等。此后短短数 十年内便一跃成为一所世界顶级大学。
